March 2008
Supporting
the Early Years Enriched Programme for the
underprivileged children of the Pre-School Trust
Fund towards a World Class Quality Education.
The Government
vision is that all children of pre-primary
school age should attend pre-primary school
located in suitable buildings with trained
teachers, adequate playing space and using
appropriate teaching materials. Such school will
help to counteract inequalities in social
conditions by providing an educational base for
socially disadvantaged children. It is a
critical period for the young child during which
the bases of intellectual, social-emotional and
psychomotor development are facilitated.
The Trust Fund
for the Social Integration of Vulnerable Groups
and the Pre-School Trust Fund have carried a
survey to identify the specific needs to upgrade
the pre-primary schools having children from
disadvantaged groups. These children having
higher barriers to learning than others can be
better prepared for the transition to the next
phase, primary school. Out of 181 preschools
centres operating in the primary school, 44 of
them particularly in the lower socio-economic
groups have been chosen to enable the Pre-School
Trust Fund to set up the Early Years Enriched
Programme.
Objectives
The Early Years
Enrichment Programme aims at providing high
quality pre-school education, to some 1,500
children, particularly to those at risks and the
programme will ensure.
-
That the children
are well fed and enjoy basic health and the
psycho-social well being. An attractive and
stimulating learning environment, consistent
scheduling and appropriate group practices.
-
Warm, positive and
professional interaction between the
educator and the child and child-to child
